It was a high 5x, low 6x when I checked RT last, but maybe it's gone up.

User ratings were like 93% positive, with an average 4.25/5 rating though. User ratings are always high for action blockbusters though, so I take that with a grain of salt.

I'm going to see it tomorrow probably. I'm hopeful. Even if it isn't amazing I'm ok supporting it because I'd like the industry to go back to an era where they weren't scared of making new things. This culture of only remakes/reboots/sequels is frustrating.

This is not new ip, bruv. This is a live action remake of a +20year old manga/anime.

It's new as far as Hollywood is concerned.

Lol, right? Its fucked up, but it's true. Even an adaptation is far more original than what we've come to expect.

Just got back from it and honestly I really enjoyed it. I think they did a good job. The cgi was great, the acting was fine, I could understand if some don't like the story but it was good for me. I acknowledge some bias though because I love rollerball.

I think they did a really good job introducing the characters and the world. They have enough world building and character development that I was pulled in and wanted to see more. Unlike ghost in the Shell where they just expect you to give a shit about the main character despite the fact that they only have 10 minutes of character development 70% the way through the movie, this movie spends the first half growing the characters.

It did have is faults, but nothing jarring.

Great movie.
Was a lot better than I thought it was going to be.
Definitely want to see part 2.

I don't know why you guys judge a movie so harshly simply because it's a remake or adaptation, rather than by the actual movie itself.
The trailers did not look promising and definitely didn't do the movie justice.

What? No one here negatively critiques a movie solely because it's a remake or adaptation. The trailers for this looked God fucking awful and the CGI (in those trailers/posters) was off-putting at best and outright terrible at worst. My harsh comments were based on what I've seen, they had nothing to do with it being an adaptation of something. That wouldn't even make sense to automatically hate or trash a movie because it's a remake or adaptation. Some remakes are better than the originals and some adaptations are better than the source material. Both of those scenarios are exceedingly rare, but it happens and that's why I don't mind watching remakes/adaptations that look decent.

e: Looks like a SD copy of this leaked online. I generally wait for HD with visual driven movies, but how important do you guys think it is? Is it a must to watch this in as high definition as possible, or will a slightly worse copy be as enjoyable as waiting a month for a better version?

Was mainly referring to BrendanShaub

I would wait for at least decent quality. Doesn't need to be theater level.

Thanks for the advice man. I keep hearing good things, so I'm going to check it out for sure.
