about the part where trump asks him to open up the investigation into Biden's son: it all comes down to the premise:
if the premise is that Hunter Biden's actions in Ukraine in 2014 were at least shady, but never properly investigated because the previous government were deep down Obama's ass, then it is perfectly fair for Trump to call for an open-ended investigation according to Ukrainian laws.
if the premise is that Hunter Biden did nothing wrong and that there also isnt probable cause for such an investigation, then Trump asking for such an investigation would be a corrupt act (asking a foreign leader to bend or break the laws of his own country to do Trump a political favor).



at the end of the day, the phone call leaves enough room for both interpretations; and in either case, it definitely is NOT the smoking gun the Democrats were hoping for and would have needed to really get anywhere with their impeachment proceedings.

tldr: this whole thing will die in the partisan quagmire, imho without moving the needle too much in either direction.

I don't know if it's illegal or not, but using your personal attorney to work with a foreign government in order to investigate a possible opponent is a REALLY bad look.
