There's a few reasons
The mRNA vaccines are expected to be more effective as they more closely mimic an actual infection.
The mRNA vaccines are more easily modifiable. Instead of having to do a completely new trial for a new vaccine formulation you can just modify the mRNA. So if a variant is evading immunity due to only ~10 nucleotides, you can just replace those nucleotides and use the exact same formulation to target it.
but the most important reason is....
There's just no reason to avoid mRNA vaccines as long as they go through the same process as the other vaccines. Which they did. We have these systems in place for a reason, and the mRNA vaccines passed with flying colors even compared to their more traditional counterparts.
