The South West is not being struck with droughts in this scenario. It is being struck with no water from any source. The aquafer is what you drill into to get well water and is a source of water for millions of people across over a dozen states. The colorado hasn't ever dried up completely and when it gets low the Hoover Dam is a resevoir to supply for massive areas. Rain doesn't factor into the availability.... yet.
This isn't just a "U.S." problem either. Massive swaths of the Middle East are going to dry up because of first-world oil use. You think the immigration issue is contentious now, just wait until you have a million refugees a year at your door in addition to all the ones you do now because a lot of the planet became fundamentally unlivable.
Republicans are selfish and corrupt bums, and their voters were easily manipulated. The reason we have this issue is because of a propaganda campaign from the 70's to now about how global warming really isn't that bad, and instead of listening to the experts Republicans chose to actively ignore the evidence. Even Margaret Thatcher acknowledged the issue while Reagan and Republicans actively ignored it. Democrats were better until the 90's, at which point they got worse mostly because Republicans made it clear they would obstruct absolutely everything in relation to climate change. (Reminder that the Democrat presidential candidate that won an actually stolen election made an active attempt to educate people) Reagan took down the solar panel installed on the white house roof by Jimmy Carter and it now sits in a Chinese museum owned by a solar panel billionaire. If that isn't just beautiful irony I don't know what is.
So no, I don't think you get it. Neither in magnitude, scope, or the history of what's lead us here. If you did you wouldn't be criticizing the left for saying we need drastic action, because "the science says we need drastic action".
