On a side note. It's always intrigued me why Australia doesn't make a humongous man made lake in the middle of Australia? Or maybe a coast to coast waterway through the center of Australia?

I especially like the giant lake idea. All the rock and soil dug from the are to be the lake could be used to make rolling hills all around the lake. This would have the effect of creating weather patterns etc.

well to make a lake with a similar volume to say lake superior, you'd have to displace about 3,000 cubic miles of earth
the soil in central australia is fairly dry so it would be relatively light, we can estimate about 1 US ton per 1 cubic yard of topsoil
You wouldn't have to worry about the Great Artesian Basin since its 3,000 ft deep around there and ends by Alice Springs anyway
so that leaves us to about 16.36 trillion tons of dirt that needs to be displaced, also needs to be moved a substantial distance and made into a new mountain, not to mention the vertical lifting involved from lower parts of the new lake

Well yea it is. An investment banker makes more money than a hotel owner. And If you employ people, its more generous than taking 100% for profits.

Your math still adds up to about 800mil.
