Article ignores a lot of political realities but nb. The timeline moves toward liberalization. What was liberal twenty years ago when they talk about young Joe is centrist now. The wings of the parties are out there much further than Joe Biden. He has even been Blue Dogish on some things for a long time.

The article is based on rankings made of these people by their enemies. Those percentages by conservative thinktanks are laughable.

Plus he is an old Christian white guy from the burbs.

Being for tax hikes vs tax cuts is a timeless metric.

Also, the fact that you consider his identity ("old christian white guy from the burbs") to be something negative reveals the true colors of the zeitgeist: identity politics instead of actual, true liberalization.

Spending money to pay for social programs isn't radical though. Article relies on hyperbole.

Of course the article is somewhat biased. However, its key message is spot on: Biden is not a true moderate, he only appears to be a moderate relative to the rest of his party because the Democrats have move to the left at a breakneck pace in recent years.
Pointing out that Biden was considered a very solid liberal instead of a moderate well into the Obama years, just 5 or so years ago, is an absolutely fair argument.

It's true the Democrats have moved left... but I don't view opposing Trump's tax cuts as a left-wing position. It's the fiscally responsible position.

Sure, but the article says that Biden virtually never favored any kinds of tax cuts throughout his 40+ years career on the Senate. Only 3-4 of those years fall into the Trump era.

You can’t claim fiscal responsibility when they seek to expand programs that are much costlier than the tax cuts.

This is the same level of stupidity that viewed the amazon tax breaks as money given to corporation so instead let’s actually spend that money when we never had it.

Democrats moved massively to the right decades ago. Biden is a virulent symptom of that right wing disease they were all infected by. The "move to the left" is just signaling a return to normality. The disease is being treated.

And before the Republicans moved massively to the right during the 80s and late 70s, the Dems moved massively to the left during the 60s.

Well thank God for LBJ's civil rights reforms. Those shouldn't be considered left wing, rather a neutral act of morality.
