543 deaths in Germany today, ouch. A country that handled the pandemic well up until recently and while it has 4x fewer deaths per capita than Italy/UK/Spain/France, it looks like they're catching up.

the result of too much 'balancing' of measures (or rather too much half-assery), too many idiots jumping aboard the 'masks and distancing are literally fascism - let's defend democracy by recklessly infecting and killing our loved ones and innocent people who use their brain' train, and the famous covid paradox, in which a relatively successful initial approach leads to people thinking it might not be so serious after all...

merkel has been floating rather drastic measures for about a week now, but no one is determined enough to commit political suicide by 'canceling christmas' - especially now that the vaccine is out and people 'feel' the worst is basically behind us. considering our population and how infection numbers are rising drastically literally everywhere in germany, it's safe to say that there will be a whole lot of dying happening in the coming weeks...

Happy end: PSG a gagné 5-1 (3 buts neymar, 2 buts mbape).

No deal would be terrible for the UK, but this cartoon suggests the EU will be unaffected, which is factually incorrect. In fact, the loss to the EU in GDP would be greater than for the UK, which makes sense given we're a huge net importer. The loss is obviously spread out within the EU, resulting in a lower potential impact per member state, but it's still heavily weighted towards Ireland, France, Germany, Netherlands and the Nordic countries:

Also, what do you expect Boris to do exactly, just cave into the EU's demands? You make it seem like the UK are the bad guys and the EU is a benevolent organisation making totally reasonable requests. Even you must admit some of the demands are unacceptable, like being the only sovereign nation in the world to not have fishing rights in over 80% of its own waters when it has absolutely nothing to do with adhering to the Efour freedoms. It's just a power grab being pushed by France.

On trade subsidies and the 'level playing field', we very rarely subsidise businesses to make them more competitive like the EU does, and it's fair to take the negotiating position that a sovereign nation shouldn't be tied into updating its regulatory framework to match the EU's, which we'd have no say in.

The UK hasn't done anything wrong in the negotiations over the last few weeks, the only thing we're guilty of is wasting valuable time since the referendum when we didn't have a clear path under May.

Imho, France/the French members of the negotiating delegation are trying to provoke a hard brexit, since they hope that it sets an example and scares the rest of europe into further integration steps.

I don't know if they are doing this to deliberately provoke a no deal brexit like you said, or if they just harbour ill feelings towards the UK and are happy to hurt themselves in order to hurt the UK more. Maybe they just think we will cave, which we will at least to some extent. Macron is a joke tbh, every other EU country and the UK is trying to compromise except them.
