Forget who it was, but listened to a podcast with Sam Harris once and his guest was speaking about his relationship with his father who was in his 20s at the time of the war and how the guilt of his father about his compliance and silence in spite of everything and how he was duped into the propaganda but then expanded on he thinks a lot of that was maybe his father's method of coping since it could have been far worse. I'll try to find it later on maybe if you want the podcast episode. It's a really good perspective about post war Germany attitude.

those that actually benefit from trump economics don't wear red hats. trump has done nothing for "steel ghosttowns" but give them false hope, empty promises, and a couple of clearly defined scapegoats. when the deficit that his tax cuts for billionaires created crashes the economy, they will get another lesson where republicans are the biggest "communists" in the world: by socialising the losses of their irresponsible policies. the left loves to spend on people (healthcare, education, wages, food programs), the right loves to spend on themselves (tax breaks for corporations and rich people, wars, favours for their donors in big oil, big pharma).
