I had a friend text me this link/video a few days ago and cited it as the reason he would vote for Trump.

Every time they make the rounds it comes out that they fabricated evidence. Literally every time. They are not honest actors.

even outside of the blatantly false evidence, they employ a very misleading tactic. they do 1000 secret recording sessions until they find some idiot who mouths off, then attributes it generally.

example:

one idiot says something dumb about planned parenthood = "PP is selling baby parts"

one idiot says bernie will put people in camps = "this is bernies secret agenda"

etc. they just hunt for staffers who get too excited, many of whom are lying to try and grab support.

Woosh.

the real question is: how high or low does this staffer rank? campaigns from the political fringes will naturally attract a certain share of nutjobs. and campaigns will always have some staffers with views more radical than those of the actual candidate.
stuff like this is only really a red flag if there is a pattern of staffers of a particular candidate being extremists, or if such a radical staffer knew the candidate in person, talked with him/her about policy, etc.

Good portion of them were just lying to themselves the entire time being happy it wasn't them and didn't want their life to change.

Forget who it was, but listened to a podcast with Sam Harris once and his guest was speaking about his relationship with his father who was in his 20s at the time of the war and how the guilt of his father about his compliance and silence in spite of everything and how he was duped into the propaganda but then expanded on he thinks a lot of that was maybe his father's method of coping since it could have been far worse. I'll try to find it later on maybe if you want the podcast episode. It's a really good perspective about post war Germany attitude.

it's the strangest thing with trump voters. hardly any of them have the balls to outright admit why they actually support him, almost all of them make some flimsy excuse:

- "hillary would have started a war" (while trump actually maneuvered america to the brink of war with his ridiculous approach to iran)
- "she said 'deplorables' once" (while trump is famous for insulting women, disabled reporters, democrats...)
- "i heard a democrat use a bad word" (ever been to a trump rally? talked to one of his supporters? that's a whole new league of bigotry and ignorance at display)
- "i don't want my children to starve" (ignoring that no democrat is suggesting to implement soviet style communism, while republicans are actively defunding food programs)
