true, i actually agree with this. but it's nonetheless the necessary first step in a paradigm shift.

it is still not really accepted or acknowledged by the mainstream that illegal immigration is a crime and not just an inconvenience, that it is in fact very well preventable and not an inevitability, and that it's something that adversely affects a significant percentage of the population.

thus is the story with all nonviolent "victimless crimes". immigration isn't remotely unique in this.

many people use the "people wont even acknowledge its a crime" rhetoric quite a bit. and from talking with people, a lot seem to overlook that this is a common thread, to one degree or another, of almost all non-violent crimes. people seem to get the idea that this is a challenge only in legislation of immigration law, when in fact its something that has plagued fields like drug law, financial crimes, vice crimes, etc for a long time. people tend to use the law as an appeal to authority, rather than acknowledging that there is a very split opinion on the topic. perhaps not a salient point, but an annoyance to me.

I don't see it as a paradigm shift because the paradigm has, for pretty much all of history, been blaming the immigrants for problems. It's happened for all of history, and Mexican immigrants are just the flavor-of-the-week.

Until the targets stop being the poorest immigrants it's the same old story we've seen for literally hundreds of years, and in many countries.

I’m not going to read through 40+ pages of posts.
My wife is an immigrant and is a transportation engineer with a fullbown degree. We have gotten a lot of backlash because she is an immigrant.
I live in Texas, the most right-winged state in the US. She is descriminated against and her process to get her papers done is taking a very long time... it’s supposed to take up to almost 8 or 10 months.
That’s ridiculous. During this time, she is not allowed to work.
How do you expect someone to live for 8 months and not be able to work..? Why even bother with the paperwork in the first place?
It cost us $2,000 USD to pay for the papers and more to hire an attorney. You need legal help as this anti-immigrant rhetoric strengthens.
I started to see why so many people decide to skip the process and just take up the jobs that no Americans want.

Heaven forbid someone with actual life experience interrupts the white boys spewing political talking points to each other on a gaming forum

maybe it's real and maybe it's not idc but one thing there is not too much of here is a connection to the people and the experiences being affected by the policies discussed

I also come from a military family, peaking my interests in Europe as a child while we moved across Europe.
I’ve posted here when I first signed up, actually.
What’s my troll signature?
I lived in Germany for a while and can speak more than one language - is that a hard concept? Probably.
How is this a sob story. It’s how our immigration system works, lol.
I just paid off the attorney fees, actually.

Oh wow look I’m actually telling the truth oh wow what a crazy concept.
