so, bring in contract workers on temporary visas?!
there are still a lot of mexicans/latin americans wanting to do those jobs - why not bring them in in a legal and controlled fashion, strictly according to actual need, while kicking out all the useless or even harmful MS13 folks and welfare-check collectors?

Because they command higher wages, are less available, and have fewer available.

Oh, and the same politicians that talk about being tough on immigration always target the most helpless members, the immigrants, and not the people who actually make it lucrative to come and work, the employers who hire them.

Any immigration plan that doesn't target the businesses that hire immigrants isn't a real immigration plan. It's showboating for the base.

This is also an issue. Something like 60% of all illegal immigrants are here because they overstayed their visa.

Talk about the border wall actually makes this problem worse, as they aren't convinced they can get back in if they leave at the end of their visa and apply for it again, so they opt to stay.

It's a well-known phenomena that is ignored by almost everybody because solving the immigration issue has more difficulties to it than politicians want you to believe.

All of the problems are imaginary. Democrats dont want to solve it, otherwise they would do it in one day with e-verify

I was of course assuming that some sort of e-verify system would be in place in my scenario.

both sides of the aisle, "mainstream" democrats and "mainstream" republicans, are puppets of employers and corporations. they are both in favor of illegal immigration and/or high levels of legal immigration. on the republican side, we're talking about guys like jeff flake, lindsey graham, john mccain or jeb bush.

the main difference between the parties when it comes to immigration is that the democrat's base is much more pro-immigration overall than the republican base, which is largely for reduced immigration levels. (see the studies that found that the candidate who takes on the most hardline stance on immigration has been overperforming in republican primaries for at least the last 10 years.)

Oh wow it's almost like the country the immigrant is coming from is so bad it's worth the risk to them.

Much wow.
