oh really?
the only thing they have is a bat virus that is similar, thats it
First off, being similar to a bat virus is a massive clue. These things don't come from nowhere, so if you find a virus that only differs by a little bit, that's a pretty big hint.
Second off, it has specific sequences that are known to be used to evade the immune system of bats and I think pangolins. That's another very big clue that it had to evade an active immune system in its development.
Thirdly, it lacks all markers of genetic engineering. It's been examined by dozens of labs in dozens of countries and nobody has been able to identify a single piece of evidence that suggests genetic manipulation. That's another big clue.
So if it was genetically engineered, it would have had to be done in such a way as to mimic an already existant virus that had to hide from a bat or pangolin immune system and was done in such a way that left no trace of intentional manipulation.
It's possible China or some other organization has this technology, but until we know they do there is simply zero evidence it's anything but a zoonotic event, and plenty of evidence it was a zoonotic event.
To be clear, even if we assume it was made in a lab, no lab in the world has the capability of building a functional virus from scratch. They would take 99% from an already existent virus. So no matter what, it is a zoonotic illness. Additionally, there is no reliable way to change a virus that leaves no trace. The question is not if it came from animals, the question is how it started infecting humans.
