agree, RBG was a total geezer should have been kicked out of office long before her death

Correct. She should have been replaced in Obama’s first term but stayed over personal arrogance.

I'm still absolutely bitter about Republicans and right-wing supporters not caring about the blatant self-serving hypocrisy between McConnell saying that the American people should have a voice in the nomination 200+ days out from election day in 2016 v. ramming Barrett through in 2020 with ~40 days until the election.

The lack of integrity is astounding, and I would feel the exact same way if instead the story was the same but done by Democrats. It's just a pedantic shitshow of "Well they started it!" that you expect common on a children's playground, but is very unbecoming of one of our branches of government.

All the big republican senators were saying the people deserved to decide in 2016.

its not hypocritical when the situations are not the same

the senate considered both nominees and decided to advance one of them

Bruh, the message was loud and clear from McConnel: The American people should decide since it was "so close" to the election in 2016.

The mental gymnastics one needs to engage in to justify this hypocrisy is beyond me.

Of course it is hypocrisy. The two situations are not entirely identical though:

In 2016, the voters had taken away the Senate from Obama in the previous midterms, so an argument can be made that not appointing a left-of-center judge to the Supreme Court is what voters had signed up for. By contrast, in the last election before the current vacancy (the 2018 midterms), voters had specifically increased the GOP Senate majority in spite of the unpopularity of the GOP president, so one can argue that voters have given Republicans a mandate to confirm conservative judges.

yes, an election in 2016 where there would be 100% chance of a new President. the incumbent was not up for re-election at the time. of course Republicans are stupid at messaging, and failed to include this. of course it wouldnt make a difference as the media would leave it out anyway.

there are no gymnastics of any sort required when it's two different scenarios.

I think attempts to justify this just allow for a really bad precedent to flourish unabated.
