im of the opinion that any black belt in BJJ can't find any issues subduing someone that isnt also a near black belt of black belt. ive been put into a pretzel by 150 lb old guys several times. i'd need 30 years training to even begin to use my stength advantage. but if u had 2 BJJ black belt cops no person could resist arrest. training in a martial art that involves rolling should be required for all cops, tax payer can even foot the bill. its just embarrassing to see guns pulled on an unarmed man in the USA and then see shit in thailand where a drawn knife guy gets manhandled 1 on 1.

Rhonda Rousey thought her martial arts training was good enough to beat a boxer.

She found out different.

sure if a cop is arresting a world class striker they may have a rough time, but they'd still have a rough time using anything short of a taser. even then, don't miss.

versus an average street tough BJJ makes them just look silly. u can subdue them from top, side, bottom. doesnt matter. at least well enough to let backup do their thing.

Okay, so your opinion is that gang members, people doped out on anything from opiates that'll effectively prevent pain to PCP or meth, amateur boxers, serial killers, etc. can all be dealt with via a couple of guys with submission-based martial arts training?

I mean, let's say you get this serial killer into an arm bar. So what? They aren't giving up, they'll force you to break their arm just so they can get at you with the other. Ever try to cuff someone in an arm bar?

Like, I just don't quite get how you think that BJJ is going to be an awesome tool. While it may or may not have been handy in this case, in a general sense, police exist to enforce the law, not go hand to hand against anyone who takes issue at the law.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Walker: Texas Ranger too. TV isn't reality though.

Unrelated note: It was reported last week that Chuck Norris caught Covid19. The virus will remain in quarantine for 3 more weeks.

1. do you actually think most gang members are doped out on PCP or Meth?

2. if they're gang members you're approaching guns drawn, not hands out

3. you clearly havent done BJJ. the goal of BJJ is submissions, true, but it takes a mastery of body positioning and finding better positioning to get those submissions. think of say taking the back and getting 2 chicken wings as the position the cop is looking for, rather than an arm bar.

That wasn't his opinion at all, from what I read. He specifically said "versus an average street tough". Your gang members, people "doped out", amateur boxers aren't average street toughs.

Meanwhile, the person you're attempting to get hold of kicks your knee out of socket and knocks you out with a uppercut as you're going down. You're now helpless and may die.

And the guy in this thread could have been a gang member, or hopped up. You don't know anything about the person you're confronting when you confront someone. Assuming you're capable of subduing them is an arrogant assumption.

Nobody said anything about a hopped up gang member. I gave multiple examples of what police deal with every day. Also figure many police are military trained. Hell, more than a few criminals are as well. You think that your BJJ puts you one-up on a marine?

I dunno dude, I think you live in a television set, and have never been in a fight where real harm is a consideration. A fight's not a spar.

MN has had a bad trend lately with cops killing people and 'took-er-job' types wanting to ruin US fresh water supply. I'm surprised this didn't happen in North Minneapolis, that place is violent crime central.

your reading comprehension isn't very good. i said i want cops trained in BJJ specifically so they know body positioning better than the cop in this story did. or worse yet the number of cops we've seen that get pummeled because they dont have any clue how to fight.

its funny that you diss BJJ, you must have missed the first 10 UFC events where a 150 pound scrapper choked out all of the best fighters in the world. BJJ versus no experience with BJJ = u get choked out, minus the punchers chance.

basically this:
