A federal law would take a simple majority of the house, 60 senators and the president.
It could also be done by just 50 senators and the vp + president by using a legislative nuclear option, which would completely destroy the fabric of congress in the process and send our nation into a political death spiral
Even with a law passed, it might not necessarily pass constitutional muster, since it still leaves open the question for scotus to decide whether the federal government has jurisdiction to override states on the legality of abortion, which is both legally a losing argument and politically a winning argument, so its not easy to predict.
To get a full amendment which would end the question completely, it requires 67% of the house and 67 senators or 34 states just to bring it to a constitutional convention, at which point it passes to state legislatures and must be supported by 38 states to pass

Yep... and THAT is what makes America great. ^^

If Bonnie Tyler was here she'd be singing her "I need a hero" song, about the Supreme Court.

Oh look... here she comes now...

Yeah 38 states would be impossible.
Great post by the way.

Next they will go after contraception.

It's crazy that people are cheering the reduction of our rights into a more theocratic system.

I've always been a golden rule libertarian but I'm really starting to feel like christians in government are a big problem. Evangelicals need a take down after this.

Pretty sure this happening is going to wake some people up. Because nobody actually wanted RvW overturned.

They have more in common with hard-line Muslims than libertarians at this point.

That's literally what democracy is though...

imposing the religious values of a minority on everyone, turning half the population into second class citizen, through a judiciary that acts as servants to god, not the people? did you merely misspell theocracy?

You realize that leftism is a religion, correct?

Not to mention like yesterday with another user that it seems the left side always says the word religion, whereas many on the right are not religious at all (myself included), we simply don’t want to legislate the approval of killing children.

But to directly respond to your misunderstanding about how the US works (maybe you are not a citizen), we here do not live in a democracy, where simple majority rules. We live in a constitutional republic with many measures put in place to ensure the majority cannot simply dictate.
