Well, I'm here for the inevitable tears.

This should put more pressure on Democrats to seek to legalize abortion at a federal level and override the states. Laws like the senate's Women’s Health Protection Act.
So far Democrats have done nothing but idle posturing and wishlist bills. They have made no attempt at forcing the issue, no legal maneuvers, no horse trading, no pressure campaigns, no holding up the budget or threatening to shut down the government. Because so far this issue has been something they could put off and kick the can on. Well now its a real issue in play and abortion will be illegal in half the country. Because that half of the country votes democratically to make abortion illegal, and hold the political clout to prevent federal abortion legislation so far. At a minimum, it can drive democrats to campaign for congressmen and women to get the support necessary to pass a federal abortion law. They could embrace the inverse-blue-dogs, Democrats who embrace populist libertarian principles on economic and social issues and vote against the progressives on other policies, but agree on abortion.

abortion will now be a state's rights issue and ignored at the federal level to take the place of covid restrictions or lackthereof.

red states point to the cOmMuNiSt laws in blue states to drum up support, blue states point to the moronic lack of restrictions in red states to drum up votes.

same goes for school education laws, both use the other's state laws to rile up the base. the senate and congress are as close to a ceremonial body as they've ever been in my estimation. even in the utter failure of the days abolition where both sides failed to do much to prevent conflict there wasn't this much inaction. we had ineffectual compromises which failed to rectify the core issue or find common ground, but congress has been nothing but a show court since the flop that was obamacare.
