"Weaponize a flu-like virus to genocide the pesky native inhabitants of the area you want to settle" - I think we've already seen this tactic
yes that did work quite well in the americas. just in case you're not aware most historians agree that almost all of the sickness passed on from Europeans to native in America was incidental. for years stories of smallpox infected blankets being traded to the natives were passed around. but that seems out of place with what they even understood about germs at the time, and there's very little historical backing.
we've grown so accustomed to thinking of settler vs indian interactions as deeply violent and contentious, when in reality most of the early interactions were trading expeditions. and the sickness the white man brought the natives, while incidental, was a big part in what formed such a contentious relationship. that and the white mans unquenchable thirst for more land.
most of the worst one sided atrocities came in the last stage of this conflict. broken treaties, followed by the trail of tears, followed by the poorly planned reservations (or in reality maliciously planned), followed by "re-culturing schools". this completed the genocidal cycle, their wills broken they were subjected to the worst punishment they could have been. an oral history culture had its chain of history broken forever with no chance to recover. we still cant even be sure of the tribes, languages, religions, and history that was lost.
