So if im reading this thread right, trump holding foreign aid as a bargaining chip in return for having his personal lawyer work with a foreign country to investigate the family of his political opponents isn't explicitly illegal so its ok

Is that where we are at?

Is this a commonly accepted political tactic?

since this doesn't satisfy privileged lefties like yourself and the (D) party the deep state should just leak the transcript to the NYT or Wapo - it's their standard practice at this point

I think holding up foreign aid may have been incidental. He's always ranting about reducing aid. John Bolton had to pressure him into releasing it. Probably because Trump isn't fond of stirring up conflict with Russia. If anything, Trump is a dove on foreign policy and pretty much everyone can see any talk of war and military action is all bluster. I say that as a compliment too, a dove president is preferable to the warmongers who've been running things for a century. He probably brought up Biden since Rudy is running these investigations. I'm all for it being investigate just to shine a light on the family of politicians getting cushy jobs in exchange for access.

I was under the impression that this was a by the books disclaimer that would be used in any scenario where it can be difficult to determine what someone says in broken English (or that may have to be translated into English). The talk about recollections of officers probably refers to people who understand the context of the conversation who could offer clarification on what someone could be saying. That makes sense to me, but it's just what I took away so if anyone knows if this is out of the ordinary then so be it.

Well trump is a business guy and im sure he understands leverage so i doubt it was incidental. It must also be a very common strategy in politics as china is doing right now with taiwans trading partners who are cutting off ties one by one. I'm just trying to understand where american politics is at by comparison.

Here in canada our biggest political scandal was a prime minister trying to get one of his people to ease back on prosecuting a company which bribed a foreign government to sign a contract with them which created many jobs in canada.

Pretty much a flop, but I don't think it will stop the "inquiry".
