He's right though.

He left out the part where Communism is ALWAYS an authoritarian state.

I get your point, but you pretend that this was just a few angry peasants getting together and doing something about the world not being fair. When her family got shipped off in 47,communism was a force to be reckoned with not some plebs with pitch forks. They didn't uproot both of my great grand fathers families, place them on trains and send them to Siberia because a mob decided it. This was systemic, well thought out & purposeful.

They were being uprooted because it's easier to ship these people off so the govt can take all their shit when gone instead of leaving them there to protest.

By then the people who were terrorized had become the tyrants. It happens a lot...that is more of a human thing though because that story has replayed itself throughout history over and over again.

In more democratic, less authoritarian places, the transition to socialism has played out very differently. But the Nordic transition to socialism wasn't nearly as desperate as the Vietnamese or Russian. Yugoslavia was different than Russia....Stalin was just a monster.

Pretty much.

Northern/Western European welfare states are better examples of Marxist systems than the Soviet era "Socialist republics"

European welfare states are capitalist, just highly taxed.

Communism is described as a stateless society by its pioneers. Try again.

the late stage capitalism idea of communism isn't achievable without a super advanced utopian society with a magical box in every house that can produce any good or service with the touch of a button.

what people commonly understand as communism always requires an authoritarian state to seize the means of production.

socialism doesn't exist in any European countries today. They have aspects of welfare states, not actual socialism as the means of production are privately owned. The modern places that actually have socialism are complete shitholes like north korea

You can't lay the state of North Korea solely at the feet of socialism.

There is something called a mixed economy. Keep your North Korean straw man sir.

Nobody haa brought up Somalia as a libertarian paradise because its a stupid argumemt and was used to make fun of people saying North Korea is communist. They are feudal dude, they've lived the same way unchanged for hundreds maybe a thousand years. This is the nature of conservatism. The name of the king has changed, the lifestyle has not.

So I guess we can bring back the thing where we talk about Somalia every time libertarianism comes up like you guys do with socialism. It just doesn't mean anything outside of peer circlejerking.

You aren't addressing anything I said. North Korea is a socialist state as the means of production are not privately owned. They are not communist in the Marxist definition because they are not a stateless society.

There are no socialist countries in Europe as the means of production are privately owned. What strawman am I making exactly?

The means of production are owned by one dynastic family. They have a monarchy or dictatorship....but I'm pretty sure they claim that god himself made their family the lords of Korea.

People dont own the means of production in NK.. One royal family controls it all.

Using North Korea as an example of socialism is like using Somalia as an example of Libertarianism. I guess we can do this in seriousness here. In real life feudalism =/= socialism.
