I feel like you guys nailed it. I talk to a lot of people about this amongst other things and I feel like the general public agrees with your stance.

going to college is still a great way to get a job, its just not a great way for everyone to get a job.
the supply of money for college is greater than the demand for college grads in many fields. we could use a requirement that to receive certain grants you must be in a desired field. that would reduce the issue a bit.
people generally cite basket weaving or women's studies as useless majors. they are, but no one really takes them. the issue is more of gym teachers, "business" majors without an econ, finance, or accounting emphasis, etc.

Yea if you go to a worthless "for profit" college like University of Phoenix for an online degree. I remember going to interviews while I was going to San Jose State University, I had a panel interview where I had to do a presentation about their interview questions. There were about 10 people including me interviewing for the position. I thought I failed the interview, but I later found out, I was selected and quite a few other people were chosen too. The only people they didn't select for the position were those with a degree from unaccredited or non-reputable for profit university. Requirements for this position was a 4-year college degree in related field and 1 year related experience.
