heh... being so used to how manifolds usually look, with all the extra stuff hanging on them... it looks kind of odd to see one all smooth.
It does look pretty nice though, and I'm glad to see ya posting up pics. Do you think this alteration will change the sound of the engine? I'm really curious what potential effects you'll get!! Keep us posted :)

Yes the motor will produce a completely different sound, but I don't believe the shaved manifold will attribute too much to that change. But the change wasn't entirely for cosmetic reasons.

I did port intake to 60mm to accept a larger 240sx throttle body, and I have been playing around with the runner size, but that won't make too much sound difference.

The difference will be the fact that the motor WAS naturally aspirated, running through 6-1 ceramic coated headers to a 2.5'' mandrel bent exhaust ending at a Dynomax turbo xl muffler.

The next time the motor will be spun over it will be turbocharged, with a full 3" mandrel bend exhaust ending in a Dynomax ultraflo muffler.

With the headers and the N/A setup, the sound was very race car, it sounded like "La Mans" my friends said. "Everywhere I went" (I have a sound clip in the "what do you drive" sticky at the top of the forum, or visit the link in my signature for another location of a sound clip.)

With the completely new motor and exhaust setup the car will be very reminiscent of a diesel truck at an idle, and the tone will be much much deeper, and not high pitched like the N/A setup. It's going to be cool to make the same motor make two entirely different sounds.

I'm going to head out today and hopefully get a chance to lay some weld.

Updates will follow.

Yep, so I definitely DIDN'T weld anything car related..

But since the snow was absolutely goddamned perfect. I decided to screw around and built an 8 foot tall snowman. I took some rebar and welded up some big ole arms. Had waay too much fun.

Well, after close to two months. I finally received my clutch.

Finally, I can pull my motor and start working on the car for real.

After I finish my exhaust that is, and stop playing with snowmen...

And here is the finished product for the snowman.....Yeah, he works out.

My thoughts are now turned back to the car.

Of course, more to follow.

Okay, so I am committing to work out in the garage today, despite it being 15 degrees currently (-9372 Celsius), with roughly 2 solid feet of snow on the ground.

My plan(s) for the day:

-Wrap my exhaust manifold and downpipe

-Modify and test fit my turbo shield

-Clean up/finish the welds on my exhaust (also learned that ever since I switched to a auto darkening mask my NORMAL mask welding skills are baaaaad now, haha, if for some reason I was dumb and forget to charge my mask)

Then I'm waiting for some paint to arrive so I can pull the motor and freshen up the block.

Pictures and updates will follow.

my dad bought me a 10k btu propane heater and i used it with a 1500watts electric heater to work in the garage on my van and it did the job its a 1 car garage and i get maybe 3-4 feet each side next to the vehicle. was well worth it
one like this, my dad has a 20k btu witch comes with a fan

Yep I definitely had the heaters on blast today.

So far I have

-finished up the exhaust work. It all fits.

-modified and mocked up the turbo shield to fit around my internal wastegate actuator.

And I'm about to wrap my downpipe, and my exhaust manifold in about 20 minutes. I'm letting the wrap soak at the moment, and it's definitely much nicer doing it inside.

I'll update or edit with the wrap pics.

Here's what I got so far...

The exhaust will be painted black, since it's aluminized.
