Have to put my (basically service) cat of 13 years down tomorrow. Devestated but have an almost two year old that is very verbally advanced and don't know what to tell her or if she should come along or what. Feels like I'm in shock and can't really think through the situation. What to do?

That's terrible. Lost mine of 19 years back in 2017. Terrible, terrible feeling. You gave them a great life.

Just try to think, even though it was hard to put them down, that's our duty as pet owners so they don't suffer.

I lost my 20 year old Calico in May of last year. It was really difficult, because she was the only pet I've had since high school.

It will get better over time, it will help if you dedicate something in his honor.

Only been a few days.
Gotta grieve and get all the crying out.
Celebrate the time you had with your pet and keep their memory alive.
Death is a natural part of life. Sucks that we have longer life spans than our domesticated friends.

I'd rather them go before us naturally, as most pets are loyal and I personally would much rather bear the burden of sadness over them having to feel it or constantly wondering where you are.
Death is the release for them. Know that you have given them the best and a much better life than most others would offer.

I know. It's just hard. I've never been able to cope with death and I openly admit this fact.
I have gotten better with celebrating the life I was able to afford them but my heart is too soft and my brain is incapable of staying put.
Honestly i probably need my rescues more than they need me and that's why I say I'd like them to live forever.
