Let's have an honest chat and thread about this, maybe some good will come of it instead of me mindlessly droning on about ways to prevent this or do something about it in a bunch of other threads. TL;DR at the bottom

The Btags in question are:
RAJNS#2368 / ILMR#2591 / GIIG#1924 / ASDA#21613 / LOUek#2118 / ENMonster#2983

Here's the idea of the scam (as described in other threads):

  • OP (Victim) Posts new items for trade
  • Btag Scammer finds OP's Btag via lurking other posts or multi accounting on JSP to get the OP's Btag or Game/PW
  • OP receives Friend Request THROUGH (this is important) the Blizzard Launcher from Btag scammer
  • Btag scammer claims to be a reputable trader on JSP thru Blizzard Launcher PMs, but nothing through JSP PMs
  • OP believes the Btag scammer is the reputable member, likely not knowing any better because they read ZERO of the following article: https://forums.d2jsp.org/info.php?p=11, and gives items first since 2/3 rule exists
  • OP then realizes they were scammed, opens an S/A against the reputable JSP member (Mind you who had zero interaction other than a post on their thread)
  • OP proceeds to post all evidence in the S/A post (likely thinking them posting all of this will get their FG or item(s) back and it doesn't) causing damage to the reputable member
  • Reputable JSP member refutes the situation and will 99% of the time be freed of the accusation, but there is still a 1% chance it is decided the opposite direction
  • OP proceeds to never use JSP/Quit D2R, overall hurting the economy for the rest of us

Let's say that YOU are OP in this situation, here are some things you can do to prevent losing your items:
  • PM the reputable member on D2JSP to confirm their BTag and that they are standing in your game waiting to trade
  • Don't post your BTag/Game & PW publicly unless you are comfortable with preventing being scammed
  • Don't add random-ass BTags that add you
  • Use the DAMN Mediation service that everyone preaches about; It takes a few mins longer, but if someone really is in that much of a hurry, the trade was never meant to be
  • Don't use JSP if you cannot handle it; In game trade or use other sites if this type of stuff worries you

I really don't care if I get flamed or whatever about this post, or even if it truly gets locked. What I am sick of is people getting taken advantage of, putting in a bunch of time to do a S/A for the wrong reasons, getting impersonated myself twice over now, and overall seeing people's fun get completely ruined. To the BTag scammers that may read this, fuck you, you're a bunch of terrible people ruining it for everyone else for like minimal to no gain for pixels. To the victims of these scams, get smart and try to avoid the scams by using some common sense.

TL;DR: Random btag adds can be scammers. Use a mediator or confirm the person before you fire off a random S/A at a reputable member who has a lot more to lose over a trade than you, especially you being brand new to D2JSP

Here's the TLDR I wrote from a different thread a couple days ago in the D2R discussion forum
Quote (DinosaurDucky @ Nov 29 2021 04:21pm)
After reading both of those threads, the scam is basically:
* Scammer bids on a cheap item in your thread
* Some reputable / rich / old jsp account bids on an expensive item
* You pm game name / pw to scammer, and a few other people
* Scammer retracts their bid (seems like this step is optional, or might even happen after the scam)
* Scammer joins game, says "Hi I'm the reputable/rich/old jsp account, here for your expensive item"
* You send first according to 2/3 rule (or whatever)
* Scammer leaves

Do I have that right?

#1 takeaway is of course "use a med for big trades". That prevents all scams, including this one, but can be kind of a pain in the ass

#2 takeaway is "don't use the same name/pw for multiple trades." That bit of advice is in the anti-scam sticky threads or whatever, but doesn't get repeated in every scam thread like #1 does. It would have prevented this scam, and it sounds like it would have prevented a lot of ILMR#2591's other scams as well. Something to keep in mind, and quicker than a med would have been

In that case the OP was doing multiple trades in the same game, and one of these shitheads got the name/pw and then joined and pretended to be someone else. In this case, they are adding the person in Bnet joining their game, and pretending to be someone else.

TLDR: Always confirm trade game name via pm, don't add on Bnet for trades without confirmation of users Bnet tag via pm
