You are using NVENC as the encoder, right?

I have no idea what that means lol sorry

you can offload the processing ordeal of the whole streaming thing to your GPU instead of CPU

minimize the tabs in the browser to cut out bandwidth use? you seem ignorant to how some of this works to be honest. somethings require details to be sure of, we don't have those details (what games?), but others you should be able to think through before giving advice.

we don't know what games he's playing. lets say some games would run better having 8 dedicated cores. great, the game is running optimally with a 5800x. now add streaming. the game does not play exactly the same. so you can't just say 5800x is more than enough for your use-case.. what is his use case? what level of performance does he want? what kind of wiggle room is he looking for, does his future 3080 effect your decision at all?

Apparently this has changed at some point in the past. I was unaware of it because I have been doing this for well....a long ass time.

And yes I can say 5800x is more than enough.

From what the OP has said, I gather he does mainly gaming + streaming. In this case I can say easily that a 5800x is plenty of performance.

Yeah I do mainly gaming and stream I don’t really do editing or anything like that but I would definitely like to get into editing videos and get a YouTube channel going

in that case a 5800x is still "fine" however the better choice would have been the 5900x/5950x

That’s what I figured, my brother just got the 5900x so I’ll have to see how much of a difference it is compared to my 5800x I’m sure it’ll be a bit difference

its certainly a great processor and is enough for his needs. more than enough would be having more available cores than he would be able to allocate to tasks. 8 cores is enough cores, 12 would be more than he needs. it's good that he's getting what he needs if the money is a factor.

edit: yeah if you're editing 5900x is even more of a thing to do, if you're investing enough of your time to be worth that 150-200 price difference then you're probably serious about it and should put another 150-200 in cash as well. but know that if you use the 5800x you can still do these things, and you can do them well.. its a great CPU.. its just more cores helps in a near linear fashion if you're using the right workloads.

yeah i think itll be good, i just got it all hooked up. didnt realize that you cant run dual monitors tho :/ my other mobo/cpu i ran dual one off the gpu and one off the mobo. so i just ordered a dp cable to run both off of the gpu

So OBS like X-Split should have an option between CPU or GPU to do the streaming bitrate/encoding. With the 5800X, yes, your CPU should be enough to handle that.
