So entrance to level 3 map square is always 90 degrees clockwise to entrance to WP map square?

The way into the Durance of Hate Level 3 tile will be oriented that way, yes. Not a bad way to think about it.

But as my map example shows, sometimes you won't find the exit tile by heading the direction of the red arrow.

I wouldn't do the "follow the left wall" thing at all, to be honest. I think it is only going to slow you down.

Take a look at the images again. What we want to do when we enter this map is go in the direction the red arrow is facing as much as we can. That's because of the map generation rule that I explained.



Wtf. Are you referring to the second screenshot in your original post? Cause red arrow there points in the clockwise direction AKA follow the left wall AKA “west if you think of the side where there is no wall in WP room as north bla bla bla”

I gotcha! So you start by going left, but when the map is arching round, and knowing that the enterance tile is going to face 90 degrees counter to the wp tile, its unlikely to be round the bottom of the map (unless its in the middle). So you come back up past the wp to go the other way! Thanks mate thats gonna save me alot of time :D

Look at the last image. If you did the "follow the left wall" thing you're going to hate your run on this particular map. But if you know the map generation rule, you can most likely skip the pain.

And following the left wall in any case, even if it heads you in the direction of the red arrow at first, isn't good advice. This is because the wall will, in many cases, drop you off in the wrong direction onto different map tiles. Do a few runs by doing a "follow the left wall" deal and see what I mean!
