You've maybe heard advice like "follow the left wall" to find Meph before. But I have the perfect map example that shows you why this is bad advice and why you need to start thinking in terms of map tiles in this game.

This sentence motivated me to read the rest. That's poor advice that hasn't really worked for me. Thanks for bringing it up, back to reading.

Dude you have to find a better way to explain things. This was confusing af. But appreciate the info regardless.

Doesnt really answer the question when you shouldnt follow the left wall and what should you do instead in that case.

Teo1904's Map Reading guide (that you linked to) didn't explain it 100% clearly because their use of the term "entrance" made me think they were talking about the actual entrance/door orientation rather than the orientation of the entrance tile itself. Your explanation made me realize that the orientation of the tiles allows you to infer where on the map the exit tile will most likely appear. It's clear as day to me now, and the table on the Map Reading guide will help me with all of the other locations. Thanks for bringing this and the Nihlathak guides to our attention!

Ask away! Let's see if I can help. Also, I'm going to clear up some of the explanations later today. Thanks for the feedback!

I wouldn't do the "follow the left wall" thing at all, to be honest. I think it is only going to slow you down.

Take a look at the images again. What we want to do when we enter this map is go in the direction the red arrow is facing as much as we can. That's because of the map generation rule that I explained.

When the map starts to wrap around like it did for me (see the last image), three scenarios run through my mind: (1) Durance Level 3 is in the middle of the map (this sometimes happens and we all hate it); (2) The exit tile for Durance Level 3 is basically behind the waypoint (this happens somewhat often); (3) there's some other way to head the direction of the red arrow if I cut across the map.

So I cut across the map, hoping that I will hit the exit if it's in the middle of the map. I go directly behind the waypoint as well because this happens somewhat frequently too. If I don't find it either of those ways, I'm going to keep trying to head the direction of the red arrow when I cut across the map.

I hope that helps.

You cant. So this whole post is just you trying to take credit about something ppl discovered 20years ago.

Go wp -> Find lvl 3 -> you prolly end up finding level 1 -> check lvl 1 close -> check lvl 1 opposite direction -> wow you just found meph
