Normal Marines, for the most part, physically train (pt) Monday/Wednesday/Friday. This is done in the morning and consists mostly of running, push-ups, pull-ups, etc. it really depends on your Sgts and Cpls. There would be “hikes” with all our gear and mock skirmishes.
My unit though was led by prior special forces so we got crazy. We would train Monday-Friday in the morning for 2-3 hours. We would do log runs, 100 pull-ups (your team would help you when you couldn’t do more), runs up mountains, planks, wrestling, boxing and stretching. At lunch, a group of us would go swimming for 30 minutes and in the evening we would lift weights. All we knew was pain and pushing the limits.
When first starting at this intensity it was brutal. I personally threw up almost everyday for a week straight. Eventually my body grew stronger though and then it felt as though I could go forever. We were beasts.
But yeah, military was very much guided in the workouts we did in the mornings. Fire Department it’s more of doing your own thing outside of drills.
