Like I said, that was one solution from decades ago.
Those games aren't new, wow is from 2004, barely newer than d2 at this point. ffxiv is from 2010. Since you're a programmer then you understand that at this point it's no longer interesting for the companies to do big revamps or implement new shiny stuff on those games, takes too much work and money, while the return isn't there.
Wow in special has to be the biggest cow alive today, milking the nerds who believe it is the greatest game ever - even though it has been garbage for years, not that it isn't a similar case for d2. Blizzard will never fix that, you can hope on wow2, but not a fixed wow.
