That's a super simplistic take. What is right is not always easy to understand for the average person, and the people who are correct often are not the ones who have the most resources with which to spread their message.

If they did we would have agreed that climate change was something that needed to be taken seriously 50 years ago and we would have invested accordingly. Even Margaret Thatcher understood this. Unfortunately, organizations with much more money than their opposition decided to go on a propaganda campaign to take the heat off themselves.

It's pretty well documented at this point. We know that Exxon (I think? It was one of the major oil companies. Slips my mind exactly which one), authored a report in the 70's where they concluded climate change was definitely happening and should be studied to determine how it would affect shipping routes, and then went on to actively campaign in public against global warming even being a phenomena.

I have no problem with people arguing to do something to prevent or slow or whatever when it comes to global warming. I do find pushing a 17 year old autistic girl to the front as a display cheap and kind of a turnoff.

Imagine if Exxon found some disabled black kid from Nigeria or any other country that’s generally very poor and has tons of people making some money as part of the oil industry. Now imagine this disabled kid was wheeled to a podium and then gave some speech how his dad making a few bucks a day is the only reason him and his 7 siblings aren’t starving to death. These people exist and they’re actually probably in the hundreds of thousands if not millions globally. But if Exxon used this approach to garner support it would be really poor taste and would immediately make me want to lean in opposition simply because the tactic is so shitty.
