I've never been a fan of the anime genre. Moreover, I treated him as lightly as possible, believing that these "cartoons" are designed exclusively for children, maximum adolescence. Oh gods, I've never been so wrong. Once I decided to watch Death Note. I was interested in the description and rating. And what's the difference that it is 2006 - it's never too late to discover masterpieces for yourself. So I thought and launched the first episode ... Death Note is a story about what can happen if such a magical artifact is in the hands of a genius, sociopath and psychopath with a God complex. Agree, the idea is very interesting and unusual! From this series my love for anime began.

1. Samurai Champloo - I'm guessing this won't be popular here since its more grounded than shows like DBZ or Naruto but the social commentary is amazing. Writing, character development and symbolism are all really well done. The show isn't plot driven like most other animes and each episode is generally pretty standalone. However, the episodic side archs are phenomenal, serve a purpose to the shows overall message and add character development and world building.

2. Castlevania - Never played the video games but this is an interesting take on the Dracula universe. Some of the dialogue is kinda trope-y but overall the writing is good. The first couple of seasons are kinda slow since they have to do quite a bit of world-building but it really hits its stride in season 3. Animations are really polished and fight scenes are cohesive and unique.

3. One Punch Man - Anime that makes fun of common anime tropes while falling (on purpose) into some of its pitfalls like super long battles and weird over the top dialogue. Characters are memorable and unique. Season 1 was great. Two seemed kind of aimless and repetitive.

Plot and concepts were cool and the only reason why I finished these (still waiting on that last half season of AOT). Dialogue was bad at many points in both.

Steins;Gate hands down. The visual novel is the best of course, but I watched the anime first so I'll keep it as my top 1.
