Here I was living it up as a result of my white privilege and he comes along and shatters my illusions...

I think slavery reparations would have put everything on a more even slate, considering everyone else got reparations including the japanese mentioned in the article, the slave OWNERS and native americans.

The question of whether anyone currently alive deserves reparations aside, throwing money at people only makes them lazy. You completely missed the point of the article. It's not coming from money that creates success, it's coming from a culture that values hard work and education.

that's complete bs ofc, the wealth gap is almost entirely explained by housing discrimination and exclusion.

also, to suggest that there's a culture of laziness amongst those that were exploited for their ability to work hard under conditions that white people did not want to work under is ridiculous and ignorant.

i know that the right looooves their minority voices who blame their fellow non-whites for their own misery, but facts simply don't care about your feelings.

So what you are saying is the japanese should be the poorest since they were actually paid reparations which means they should then be lazier?
Maybe after building the entire country through slavery african americans thought they had done enough hard work.

YOU are complete BS. Start looking at the situation in your own country first, like the situation of those poor east European workers that are exploited in factories all over germany. All because leeches like YOU don't want to do that work yourselves. Disgusting

Cool anecdotal story about a guy who had a lot of opportunity, a good family, and society that invested in him, and supportive, healthy, parents who provided for him materially with regular jobs growing up and then a six figure software job.

This guy seems to be an expert on the black experience, and we should quit listening to the blacks about their experience, and instead listen to this guy with a great life who was bullied like everyone on the bus as a kid.

Such a confirmation bias article lol. Not an article that is informative that can change an opinion. Everybody knows that if you come from a good family who teaches you how to take care of yourself you will do better. What you didn't see in the article is that this kid's father was thrown in prison for fitting a description and mother was raised by one parent with a high school education that couldn't develop software.

throwing money at people with a strong work ethic will not necessarily harm that work ethic. throwing money at people who are already looking for easy outs etc will not encourage them to work harder.

that doesnt apply to current generations.

if he only brought his own experience, youi might have a point. but he didnt, he also brought numerous statistics to back up his point. do you disagree with those statistics? one of his sources is a ny times article. the times is notably left-leaning. if even they can see this, theres no reason why anyone cant. the problem is the solution requires people to take personal responsibility, and no one wants to do that, its a whole lot easier to just point fingers at whites and say its their fault. while im sure discrimination played a role in setting up the current situation, that happened 50-100 years ago. its no longer relevant. at this point, anyone who wants to can work hard and rise up above their historical situation and make something of themselves. there is no racial barriers holding them back, as proven by black immigrants and other blacks with the work ethic who rise above their poverty and are successful.
