Much like glyphing, and of course you start out with lvl 1 items, but my suggestion is to be able to transfer stats from 1 item to a white same lvl item and with the chance that it fails and you lose both items.

For example:

I have a lvl 55 sword with 55 strength.
I then use my transcribe skill on a white lvl 55 charm and hope that it transcribes the stats from the sword to the charm.
If the odds are not in my favor I would lose both items but gain some proficiency for the effort.
If the odds are in my favor the white lvl 55 charm would now have the strength stats.

Any thoughts on this?

If I'm understanding you right this sounds like a much much stronger version of muting. Seems a bit too strong.

this skill would make glyphing pointless.

Your 55 strength sword is an amazing glyphable which is fine.

Transmuting gives you completely different stats and you only need the item (provided you complete the challenge) and an essence.

My idea you need a white and the item of same lvl (maybe need to complete a challenge as well?) and then has a high chance that both items poof (disappear/unsuccessful).

That doesn't make sense
People would rather abandon muting. Glyphing would still be good for mediocore rolls, like 20-25 Int

No one would bother to level up glyphing past rank 1 when they have this skill to level up instead (that's what I'm assuming OP means). I know that's what I would do if we had this skill.

No it's not. It makes use of that 55 str sword you have for example. :bonk:
