So, I encrypted my drives on my old laptop using bitlocker, backed up recovery key and everything.
Now, I no longer have the old laptop but I have the files on my external disk drive and Windows 10 does not let me access the files - doesn't even give me the option to use my passphrase or recovery key.

Is there any way I can still decrypt my files using recovery key on another laptop other than what was used to encrypt these files? Been struggling way too long on this issue.

The other way requires a super computer running brute force 24/7. ETA 20-50 years to crack the password.

Well, the thing is...

.. I have a damn key. But trying to access them from my current laptop, Windows does not even give me an option to enter the key or anything. It just blocks me out without remorse. I need the damn files :(

Did you remove the HDD from the external drive to plug into your laptop?

I copied the files from internal HDD when I got rid of the laptop and now they are on the extHDD, accessing it through USB-cable.

Did you try accessing it via eSata?
The encryption might not be letting you in because usb is "Easy Access"

If that doesn't work you can slave it on a desktop somewhere and plug it in internally

I guess that means breaking the casing - damn WD drive is sealed shut in its box. Copying them to internal drive might work though I guess? :(
