You don't pick a player regardless of age though, that's the whole point of this exercise. Eichel is in his prime and has many good years left, while Ovechkin, Marchand, etc. are already in the 30s and who knows for how long they can maintain their level of play. Not even sure Marchand is better than Eichel today anyway. Eichel has to do it pretty much all by himself on that shitty Sabres team.
You almost never see franchise players traded at the age of ~23 and there's a reason for it.. Meanwhile Panarin was traded for fucking Brandon Saad no longer than 4 years ago 😂
I personally think that if these players were truly being drafted like this, youth would not be the only concern for any team
winning now, and winning in the short term is what nearly every team in the league tries to do, this is not a rebuild draft
people think draft and think they are a bottom feeder team that needs a young long term player to build their team around long run
however we are drafting the entire league and I would wager to say that the team who drafts proper, skilled proven winners mixed with young guys would be 100x more viable than a bunch of 22 y/o kids
if you look at playoff stats its all the vets
young guys dont win, they usually need years of development before they become winners aside from the greats like sid and marchand
