AMD Ryzen 7 3700x... only 65w, great turbo boost, almost as fast as the 3900x @ 105w.
CM Hyper 212 EVO..... with push/pull, been using one on 125w CPU for 7 years, doesn't make RAM removal an issue.
Asus Pro WS X570-ACE... built like a tank, chosen for longevity and for NO bling.
GSkill F4-3200C14D-16GTZKW... chosen for seriously low timings, and then for color.
Samsung 860 Evo 500 GB 2.5"... chosen for less heat, and really... who actually needs an SSD that's 7x faster.
Windows 10 Home... only because the motherboard manufacturer's won't provide Win 7 drivers, anymore.
In July...
EVGA RTX 2060 super 8GB... much as I will ever need and has the 8GB vram to drive 30"/60Hz monitor.
Fractal Design Define R6 USB-C... chosen because 1x 5.25" bay and 6x 3.5" bays, 3 fans installed, dust filters all around, reversible door. (not sure I will get a new case, but if I do... this will be it.)
Side note: Peripherals will consist of... DELL U3011, Ducky Shine 2 and the spare Ducky Shine 3 that I already have, and the old Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 speakers.
I don't game much anymore, but when there's an occasional RPG like game, given away free on GOG or similar, I want to be able to play it.
I need this to last for ~7 years, then I'll be 70 years old, and will probably be able to deal with a $300 Best Buy tower, if necessary.
I know the tech is still moving forward, but I've noticed, that as I get older, I am moving forward a lot more slowly. Hell, on my current 2560 x 1600 monitor, it's starting to get harder to read the default text size on JSP.
So this build doesn't need to be bleeding edge, cause I'm not bleeding edge, anymore.
My biggest concern (of the things I have control over) with Windows 10 was if Paintshop Pro 7.04 would still work. Apparently it does. I'm too old to spend 2-3 years getting good at GIMP or Photoshop.
Looking to the past... the smartest purchase I ever made was the PC Power & Cooling 750w Quad Silencer power supply. I have two of them. One is 10 years old, the other is 12 years old, both still work like the day they were born.
Too bad that market pressure eliminated GREAT power supplies like these.
