The vaccines wont be be approved before mid- to late-December. They require two applications and only protect after the second dose has been given; 4 weeks after the first one.
Realistically, the first, and still very small, batch of vaccinations will be completed around inauguration day. It will take until the end of winter before a significant number of people are vaccinated.
So the vaccines will effectively do relatively little to help us get through this winter - their purpose is to facilitate a return to normal in spring which is as quick and far-reaching as possible; and to ensure that the next winter wont be a shitshow again.
tldr: we wont get any semblance of the pandemic being "over" before Q2/2021.
Yeah this vaccine is for health care workers and true at risk demographics like elderly and immunocompromised. Not intended for general population
