The vaccines wont be be approved before mid- to late-December. They require two applications and only protect after the second dose has been given; 4 weeks after the first one.
Realistically, the first, and still very small, batch of vaccinations will be completed around inauguration day. It will take until the end of winter before a significant number of people are vaccinated.

So the vaccines will effectively do relatively little to help us get through this winter - their purpose is to facilitate a return to normal in spring which is as quick and far-reaching as possible; and to ensure that the next winter wont be a shitshow again.
tldr: we wont get any semblance of the pandemic being "over" before Q2/2021.

Yeah this vaccine is for health care workers and true at risk demographics like elderly and immunocompromised. Not intended for general population

Yes, but even those groups will not be done getting vaccinated before winter is over. I dont think we'll have covered more than around 10% of the population by the end of March. And the production of the vaccines will continue to be ramped up; the amount of available batches will be significantly smaller in January/February than later in the year. The vaccines will only marginally help us get through this winter.

We don’t disagree. Those groups likely will start vaccination in 3 weeks

... which means they'll get their second dose and become immune around 7 weeks from now. Not a good outlook, considering the current pace of infections and deaths.

Ah yes some mitigation efforts don’t seem to be 100% stopping spread, since these efforts are based on human compliance to begin with and inherently flawed, so let’s not perform mitigation efforts
