But an injury prone Cam Newton coming off his 2nd shoulder surgery in 3 years is not a solid starting qb in the NFL.
I agree with you, but Cam Newton has a lot to prove. He's still young enough to overcome those injures. Probably not the best example for me to use because he retired at a young age, but Andrew Luck came back from a terrible shoulder injury, worse than Cam's, and still put up an incredible year a couple years ago. That recent workout video for Cam Newton looks promising. The guy looks like a beefed up linebacker ready to compete at a high level. He has that "Donovan McNabb" mentality. He can ignore all the outside noise and just play. Cam's a special quarterback if he has a head coach that believes in him and lets him be who he is.
Would it be shocking if Cam leads a team to the playoffs and possibly his second career Super Bowl?
I think Cam will be out for blood if the NFL ever comes back. I wouldn't bet against him succeeding.
Honestly, I think there are some teams out there that could use Cam to sell tickets and be a stopgap if nothing else.
The Miami Dolphins would potentially be a good fit even if they draft Tua. I don't think Tua will play right away.
The San Diego Chargers are a sneaky Super Bowl pick if they sign Cam Newton and he balls out for them.
EDIT: LOL, the Los Angeles Chargers I mean! They're still the second-rate NFL team of LA behind the Rams. Whiffed on Tom Brady.
