I'm pretty much done with this Diaz experiment.

Ready to move on. He's never going to close. Like this dude literally has the baseball yips or something.

EDIT:

Hyperbole or not, this team isn't that good. I don't know how much longer I can deal with following a team that just sucks so much.

Idk what his deal with. He still has nasty stuff. How does someone have good enough stuff to get 99K's in 56 innings but have an ERA of 5.59?

To be honest, I was actually mad when I wrote that post.

There's a lot of factors -

Juiced up ball sliders probably hurt his slider/cause HR to go further
Switching new leagues having to face different lineups

Tony Blengino from Forbes broke it down:

Amazingly, nine of the homers allowed by Diaz had exit velocities of LOWER than 100 MPH. Put it this way - only 15.7% of the 95-100 MPH fly balls hit in the majors last season cleared the fence. 47.1% (8 of 17) of the ones hit against Diaz did. That’s simply bad luck, and in the very small number of attempts a short reliever gets in the course of a season, there’s no way that good or bad fortune is going to even out.

So breaking it down, 6 of the 49 flyballs (12.2%) were hit at 100 MPH or higher --- 3 closers posted a lower percentage, Workman, Chapman, and Leclerc --- all elite closers in their own right.

The truth is he's still getting a lot of strikeouts last year, but was hit with variance due to bad luck.

I do hope he can get it together.

I was just saying I dont understand how a guy has good enough stuff that he strikes out that many hitters but his ERA is awful. Usually a pitcher has an advantage seeing hitters for the first time so idk if it's that. There was definitely a better scouting report on him but still hows he striking out 15per 9innings and have an ERA over 5.50. Just super contrasting numbers.

Cespedes didn't report to the stadium. Hope he's alright.

In my own opinion on this, if you're taking a bus, how do you not take roll call on the bus.

Now he opts out of the season. WOW! great.

Honestly, I'm glad he's opting out. I would rather have Dom takes his AB's.

People shit on Gordon Hayward, but if anyone has taken their money and run it's been Cespedes.

Thanks a lot for 2015, but other than that, you've been complete piece of shit teammate, never put himself over others, and only did enough to coast by. I'm surprised the Wilpons didn't try to sue and get a settlement for violating his contract in the first place.
