I don't understand this pervasive attitude of "wait to see who wins, then retroactively punish only the champions". It's same as Lance Armstrong. If he hadn't won anything, then there would be no investigations of him.

People at the top level of any sport are extremely competitive, that's why they got there. Yet all sports seem to have this approach of letting competitors break the rules as long they aren't too successful.

yall think this is harsh? lmfao
this is a terribly weak penalty
every team in the league should be cheating now

exactly, and its picks in the back of the draft.. and MLB draft is a joke after the first couple picks
5M fine is like 1% of the payroll+profits
fired a coach and a GM who can be easily replaced wooo big loss lmao

it wasnt that long ago that the braves GM got banned for life for paying international 16 year olds who were eating rice cakes and beans for every meal
and the astros GM who got banned indefinitely (prob 1 year) for saying he was glad they got Osuna to female reporters.. who shouldnt be in the locker room anyways (something always weird to me)

someone made a good suggestion of taking away like half their home games (~40) and putting them in other cities or countries that don't normally get MLB games (San Antonio, Montreal, Indianapolis, etc.)
make the Astros pay for all the travel and expenses, concessions, etc. Promotes the game elsewhere and hurts Astros by taking home games away

oh i forgot the Braves didn't just get their GM banned for life, but they had to release 13 prospects, and lost international signing money for 4 years (until 2021).. so they got fucked over for years (lost players and signing ability)
for giving money to international broke players

wheres that thread where we can wish injuries on players/staff/commissioners without getting flamed

This punishment is a joke lol. They should have at least banned Hinch for life. Luhnow I'm not sure how aware he was of the situation but as the GM he had to take part of the blame as well.

Really doesn't seem like that much, doubt they can actually make a severe enough punishment short of stripping the title but I don't see that happening. Just a dumb situation all around.

im hoping that everyone remembers the astros championship* as the 2017* astros
*cheated

seems like thatll have to be the worst punishment; everyone basically writing that championship off for the astros in what should have been a great story and a great rebuild ending
