This would be the most interesting path for them to take. They won't do it, but it'll add some meat to this story.

Rey is palp's relative/daughter/grand daughter. Palp comes back, convinces/corrupts her to the dark side and she helps him fulfill the empire's plan.

Kylo converts to light, dies to rey. Empire rules once more.

Something of the sort. Who knows, better than what we'll probably get - Rey gets whatever power she needs to win the exchance.

Like how fucking stupid are you? Do you not understand what Star Wars is? It's literally a love letter to the old adventure fantasy story. The only reason some of the movies end "with the bad guy winning" is because they are one part of a larger story.

If you don't like "Heroes journey in space" then don't watch the fucking movie, but stop complaining that it is bad, or not what you want, or that you could do better. Because it's not, your ideas are bad and you couldn't do better.

We're on the 9th movie, we don't need a story book ending.

Disney has already killed this franchise. Episode 7 & 8 are terrible. Might as well try something different.
