Got into a little FB discussion with people about this. Had to educate them...

Morey is a numbers guy, and at the end of the day his statement is factual if you're going on numbers….

Harden averaged 36.1 PPG this season (on 24.5 FGA), while posting a 61.6% True Shooting percentage. He averaged 11 free throw attempts per game (keep this in mind for those of you that complain about him living at the free throw line).

Now, let’s look at Jordan. He had two seasons where he averaged 35+ per game, 35 and 37.1 PPG to be exact. Let’s look at the one season where he averaged more points per game than Harden, 37.1 PPG. In that season he attempted over 3 more shots per game (27.8 FGA), and he posted a much lower True Shooting percentage of 56.2%. In that same season Jordan averaged 11.9 free throw attempts per game, more than James Harden averaged this past season.

In reality, you can compare any 4 year span in the prime of Jordan’s career to the past 4 seasons for Harden (compare similar age/experience at the same points), and Harden scores just as much, taking fewer shots per game, shooting at a considerably higher eFG% and TS%. This is why Morey is saying what he's saying, for anyone that is confused.

Oh boy it's the "76ers have the best starting 5 based on these cherry picked stats" part 2.

Cherry picked stats? Oh you mean something beyond raw PPG gets too much for you to understand?

Please, debate me. I'm all for it, as long as you actually bring a real argument instead of just one liner statements that go nowhere.

Let me know his stats in the playoffs. When he faces elimination. And then show me Jordan's.

MUH REGULAR SEASON ONE SIDE OF THE COURT STATS

Fucking pathetic honestly
Morey loves to make an ass of himself

I expected more from someone who claims to value defense and being clutch when it matters (talking about you DM)

the problem with those statistics is how they weight things...as i have gotten into with dino a few times. 3pt shots are worth more in the TS% and eFG% formulas, hence someone taking more 3pter's but the same ppg and ft per game will have higher TS% and eFG%.

not saying anything about morey being wrong/right, just trying to share how the formulas are calculated, which is generally a good thing to understand instead of just regurgitating numbers

i haven't checked these formulas in years though, so maybe they changed as a disclaimer*****

Edit: also if you’re using shots per game of course the guy taking more 3pter’s will have less. The actual shooting percentages in MJ’s 37.1 season is 48.2% vs harden’s 44.2%, which when you use what I said earlier explains exactly why harden can have a higher efg% and ts%

you are correct.
long story short, he shot 13 3s per game this year when the most mj ever shot was 3 per game.

harden was 55th in efg this year. comparing where they were in efg/ts with league leaders and league average is much more favorable for MJ.
