HDD Health 100% excellent
any other ideas as to what might be casuing the issue?
Yeah, the problem is probably caused by the Windows update corrupting a driver. Happens a lot. Since it only happens in games, I would assume the grfx driver or the LAN (or wireless) driver to be the corrupted one.
For the grfx driver...
If you can, block the Windows updates, then....
DDU Instructions - Nvidia1. Get this program, here:
https://www.wagnardsoft.com/ ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
2. Get your vid card driver here, use the
Manual Search:
http://www.geforce.com/drivers ...save this to your desktop.
3. Run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you. If it wants to go into "Safe Mode", let it.
4. After it's done and comp has rebooted to normal mode, just double click the Nvidia driver to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.
For the Ethernet or wireless driver, get the latest one directly from the manufacturers website. Those you should just be able to install over top of the old ones.

It’s very difficult to keep the 1903 upgrade from changing your drivers
Speaking of problems with the Win10 1903 upgrade, Rick Corbett has been trying to get the 1903 upgrade to bypass updating his drivers — he has his drivers set up the way he likes, and he doesn’t want the upgrader to come in and mess with them.
So far, we don’t have a definitive method for blocking new drivers. In particular, the techniques that worked for 1809 and earlier aren’t working right in 1903.
