It's a largely symboolic bill. I dont think that it will end up killing the current trade deal. The Chinese want this deal just as much as the American side. If they kill the process now over this Hong Kong bill which was passed by both the Senate and the House unanimously, Trump would have an easy out. He could blame the breakdown of the trade negotiations on a bipartisan bill that was backed by all of Congress. Such a move would divide China and the U.S. while closing the partisan gap between Democrats and Republicans on China. This would be unwise from the Chinese pov.

The trade war is hurting farmers, a core constituency of Trump and his party. It is eating up the economic gains from the tax cuts, and a recession during the election year would all but guarantee that Trump loses his reelection bid. Therefore, the clever approach for the Chinese is to sit out the Hong Kong issue while doing everything they can to deepen the partisan divide and to use Trump's relative weakness to get concessions from him. Freaking out over this bill and wasting their current leverage would be highly uncharacteristic for the Chinese.

Also, I support Trump for not enforcing sanctions. Sanctions have a long history of not working. I'm just calling out your cultist bullshit.

I also support a trade war, but not the stupid version Trump started. You can't start a trade war and then reactively send subsidies to giant corporate farms. You have to do that in reverse and inject cash into family farms first and then the next growing season you fuck China.

His ideas (especially the old Reform Party stuff he borrowed) aren't always bad but his implementation is braindamaged dumbfuck.
