Maybe you should watch them...

Deer Hunter is imo the best war movie of all times. It's a bit different though because it aims at the psychological problems of veterans. And it's very tough... Some torturing scenes go under my skin

The Tenant is a horror movie - also a bit special in its ways... Maybe it does not deserve to be discussed on the same page as Kubrick's movies, but I kindof like the main actor & director of the movie: Roman Polanski (french/polish)
I always like if director = main actor, because then this one guy can give the movie more of a personal touch than if you only have 1 of those jobs...

In the movie he rents an apartment and becomes crazy

It's top 5 for sure. I personally think Apocalypse Now is a better war flick, but Deer Hunter is ridiculously good.

Yes, I think most people prefer Apocalypse Now. I think the quiet scenes in the mountains are the reason why Deer Hunter is my personal favourite.
I kindof liked the french people in Apocalypse Now Redux though; they spent all night discussing politics while the american guys are chilling on the boat and smoking dope all day^^
It shows how stupid and not-thinking (US) soldiers can be.

I think you'd have to be in that situation tbh. I would want to be as far from cognition as possible during my few moments of reprieve if I was them.
