It's not just Australia, my friend, we protect quite a few countries so they can have their cake and eat it too. Most of Europe would now be Russian, if not for the US.
Maybe, England, Germany and France, working together could exists on their own for a while.

Countries aren't allies because they WANT to be, They are allies, because they need to be.



China has money, tech, and is outbreeding everyone. Russia has enough old tech and new tech to survive for a while.



/e The ONLY reason that China mostly, isn't taking over the world, right now, is because the US stands in their way. It's all about military power at the last.

/e China has already laid claim to Taiwan, and just recently has started laying claim to the Philippines. They're claiming the South China Sea as well. At various strategic locations they are buying up (through un-pay-offable loans) various countries. You may choose to ignore this, but someone, aka the US... has to pay attention.

Paying attention, costs money. Money we would love to spend on healthcare, college, UBI, better pay for teachers, and a 100 other things. But someone has to pay attention.

China is not going to attack australia, they would be declaring war on the entire commonwealth to take a country they do not have the resources to hold.
Also the australian military are well trained and equipped as well.

/e Believe me, there is nothing the US citizens want more than free or cheap healthcare, free college, UBI, better pay for teachers, less cost for drugs, etc., etc., etc. But unless someone else steps up and agrees to spend $700 billion for a huge world wide military... we'll just have to muddle through.

It'd probably be easier to make these kinds of sacrifices, if there weren't a few folks here and there, calling us idiots for doing so.
