nothing against you but you kinda said yourself that betrayal league is the only league you played, so you dont really have anything to compare it to :(
How nice of you to dig through my posts
(notice my passive aggressive use of smilies here?)
However, you got the things I said backwards, as you read them too literal. Which you could not be blamed for, though. What I should of said, is that I didn't just play during open beta up and then after release up until bloodlines 1.3 (which includes quite a few leagues fyi): I actually did play maybe two or three more leagues/bigger expansions after that. And that's why I said it like that (because technically I was not evolving pass a noob level of knowledge/past entry map-level, just playing for 1-2 months quite casually). I never much surpassed "surface level" in those, perhaps aside from in Talisman leagues where I did enter and engage in maps. Why? Because the game was boring in that state, imo.
Which also further goes to prove my point that betrayal wasn't bad. It was great! The syndicate was OK, and I agree that in tier 13-15 maps, things got punishing fast. But I played 99% SSF; so i can't know for sure if it was due to lacklusting character. But reading what others said, it's either universally agreed upon that it was too harsh (1shots) - or simply that softcore people have gotten used to a softcore balanced game so they play 100% inc life builds. Probably not, though.
IDK if this is your first account or not so that you can recall, but I did also post in these forums on each session of PoE i played.
So yeah, I have something to compare Betrayal with. All the split leagues up until bloodlines, which is as said actually several leagues. And then atleast talisman - this latter just not on a very dedicated level. Probably played 3.0.0 release for a few weeks too.
