Will buying the higher end ram 3200? Be a waste on my current mobo

The difference between 3200 And like 2400 is maybe 40 bucks so I'd rather buy something that will be good future use as well

2400 will be fine for your current system.

on your current mobo, the frequency is limited to 2133. your mobo won't be able to use either of those to it's full capacity.
"if" you think you "might" change your mobo and cpu within 1 year, and won't build a whole new pc instead... then get the 3200.
if you believe this will be the "only" upgrade to your pc this year... save the cash and get the 2400. you will then have a fully working secondary machine when you build a new one later.

My power supply is good. Graphics card is good all storages are good

The only 3 things that need to be upgraded is ram/mobo/cpu that really isn't a full build.

I went to frys today to purchase all 3 today but they didn't have any of What I needed.

it's not a full build, but it's a good chunk of a machine.
in your predicament it mostly comes down to if you want to have 1 or 2 computers in the future

i'll have you think before your purchase then.

the i5-9600k doesn't have hyper-threading. i've had a bit of experience with a few versions of 7th/8th/9th/ gen chips recently. (different system builds though)
i can't talk the 8700k up enough. it's gotten rather expensive since "my" purchase of it though. it does need good cooling to operate.

From my understanding hyper threading isn't worth it for gaming. Very minimal performance upgrades. I don't do any type of cad work or anything like that

Even heard of some games performing worse

400-500 dollar upgrades to last me another 2-3 years is pretty good imo

Literally didn't read anything beyond the first post.

But for close to $250 you can get an i7 7700 from the E of Bay. which is the best processor your motherboard can handle. Technically the 7700K would work, but you cant OC so why bother and the heat output is way higher.

You can keep your current motherboard, you would just need to do a Bios update with your current CPU before upgrading which can save tons of $$

go from 3.6 GHZ with 4 cores only to 4.2 GHZ with 4 cores and 8 threads.

/E and hyper threading is always worth it, Even if you are just benchmarking a game and it shows no difference on a clean PC with nothing running; as soon as you toss in 6 Chrome tabs, Discord, and a bunch of other telemetry BS that every app on your computer runs, it makes a difference because it can use HT to handle all those other processes without making your game stutter.

I wouldn't buy a computer component as critical as my CPU used. That is just my opinion though.

CPUs are actually the most resilient part of a PC imo.
Watched scrappers toss them 30ft Into a bin after being hauled
around in trucks all day with other scrap while being left outside
for days. They still work, have 2 dual xeons in my server now for
At least 5 years from the scrap yard.

The only concern with a used cpu is the unknown wear done to it.
But seeing as your fully backed by PayPal and a prime test will generally show instabilities its almost zero risk.

I guess the only real concern is how long it will last though being as it's a newer chip I doubt he'll have issues there as well.
