Budget: $1k
More specific use (what games, what programs): pubg, adobe premiere
Planned time until purchase: 1 month
Do you need an Operating System?: yes
Do you have any specific preferred components?: always liked nvidia and intel but maybe a better build can be done without those?
Do you need a sound or wireless card?: no
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: maybe
Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: no
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): 27707

Additional information that may help us assist you:

What are your preferences in case style? (lights, flashy, dull, etc) not too important. Prefer black case. rgb overrated i think and child's play
Are you planning to use multiple monitors? no, widescreen later tho
Are you looking for upgrade-ability? yes
Do you have any preferred brands? nvidia/intel see above
Can you reuse any components from an older build? I have an old 850w if that is usable? I have other parts from ivy bridge cpu build 5-6 years ago
Is there anything else you think we should know?

Thanks in advance!

this isn't a bad build for the price, but i'll add and change something.

first thing to note is that you will need extra storage. so expect to pay $50-$150+ pending on your data storage needs.

i'd also upgrade the mobo so you can OC to 3200mhz or higher in the future on your ram. i'd also upgrade the ram to 3200mhz if you could immediately budget that in. (the mobo i recommend more-so immediate if you care about the OC on ram. more of a bitch later)
(3200mhz is generally confirmed as the "sweet spot")

you may need some sort of after-market cpu cooler.

3200 is a sweet spot for Ryzen only
Waste of money for 8400, better to use the extra money on something else

If you reuse your older psu reinvest extra back in for maybe a 2070.

most of what i watch is intel based as it's what i use. i've heard the same with intel a few times. i'm not able to provide immediate comparisons though for fact on that.

with streaming and editing though, if he was putting money elsewhere it should be the cpu and mobo. it's something to at least note if buying a better mobo.

he can look into streaming from the rtx 2060 instead of the cpu, i heard its actually pretty good

there is no reason to get better ram and mobo for the 8400.. if it was a k cpu sure, but then he wont be able to get the 2060 within budget

The ram will add up to 10-15 frames in various games with an 8400.
In 1-3 years he can grab a used 8700k and oc it for relatively cheap.

Do you have a partpicker list of what this would look like if I go with what you are saying?

If I'm not streaming, is this build pretty kickass for video editing and pubg? or just pubg?

Can I not use my Corsair TX850 PSU?

Edit: I also do have a 1TB Western Digital Blue and 2 SSDs. SSD are older models of intel (320gb) and Crucial (500gb). Don't know if this changes things.
