Still not sure how this is a thing, does America want China to start arresting any American that violates their decrees?
Could get ugly fast.
It could potentially escalate fast, these are both treats from China and a form of "bargaining chips" for Meng, the're putting a lot of effort in getting her back.
My best guess is that this is not about the possible fine to be imposed for dealing with Iran, but for the spying accusations from Huawei, with her being the daughter of its founder and the financial director she does know a lot about where the money comes from and the projects it is paying for. We've yet to see evidence for the spying accusations against Huawei for the Chinese government. My only reason for her to be extradited is to start understanding what the hell is going on with the 5 eyes nations banning Huawei's 5G technologies, Canada and Germany have not yet followed suit. But there is the political bargaining chip for Canada. Seeing these harsh reactions as a reason to confirm government involvement and ban the company just like the others did.
What suprises me is that Huawei in particular is being banned from the free market without us getting any solid information on why to do so, I might have missed something on that, be happy for ppl filling in the gaps.
But for now, I'm expecting that having control over 5g networks is a massive asset for intelligence agencies, and they'd love to keep 5 eyes, or more "friendly" NATO country tech, in control of our internet networks.
It seems like a war for spy domination within our countries
