Thinking about building a new diablo 2 dedicated PC. I have a nice newer custom pc with windows 10 but my son is always on it, wondering what would be a good idea with today's market for something that would be a good match. I remember the older GeForce 4/5 cards running diablo 2 well, and I have an old PNY Nvidia FX5600 Ultra 128 MB AGP that I think could be a good foundation for the setup... Thoughts?

Wondering what socket motherboard I should shoot for Socket 939 with a single core? Wondering if a cheap SSD would be ideal?

I doubt you will find a motherboard with an AGP socket these days.

d2 is so old i dont think an ssd will benefit u in any way other then install time.. but ofc i recommend ssd anyway

i would probably get a 10-12" windows tablet, pretty sure most tablets will run it just fine, and will look alot better on a small screen instead of a 20" desktop

but if u want a desktop i think u should buy used, not even sure u can find a single core cpu new, maybe a celeron? but would be a waste of money imo, get a better cpu instead that will run the game without the need of a gpu

I am going to be seeking inexpensive used parts on Craigslist, Facebook market and ebay if possible. I know most 939 rigs have pci-e slots but I think some came with agp too. The reason I wanted 939 is because I used to have one and it was faster than the older pentium netburst but if I go newer than that it's less retro.

I could just buy a 40 used windows 7 box from Craigslist but am trying to have some fun with this.

I was just looking at the 939 motherboards. they are PCI-e slots as well. You may need to go back to the socket 462 motherboards.

/e I had one of these with a 2800+ in it, but it'll take a 3200+ as well. It played D2 no problem. I even had/still have a Geforce FX 5600 Ultra. :)
I still have the 2800+ too. No longer have the board though.

/e Will probably end up being cheaper than craiglisting a comp.

Well, they've patched it a bit since release. And OP may want to use comp for other things at the same time.

Mainly though, Gskill didn't list a 8GB sets. :)
